Its origin
Yoga is said to have been originated about 5,000 years ago in Northern India. You can find the term ‘Yoga’ inscribed in the ancient Hindu sacred texts, referred to as the Rig Veda. There are in total four sacred Vedic texts compiled in the Sanskrit language with Rig Veda being the first one. It is considered to be a grand collection of 1000+ mantras and hymns, comprising of 10 chapters referred to as mandalas. The Vedic age priests used the mandalas. The sages or the rishis had developed and refined Yoga to include lots of beneficial asanas. They also documented their beliefs and practices in the Upanishads. The latter is considered to be a large volume comprising of 200+ scriptures.
In Hinduism, Yoga is stated to be among the top six philosophy schools. It is also an important part of Buddhism combined with its meditation practices. Sri Yogendra Classical Yoga Museum is considered to be the first museum in the world dedicated entirely to Yoga practices.
